How secure is the data housed within the Registry?
• Why register artwork? Everything of value that we own -- such as autos, boats, homes, even software and animals – is registered. Everything except, until now, original works of art. The registration of art enhances value, creates provenance, creates a schedule for insurance purposes, tracks ownership, provides an offsite record of art including a digital photo and other documentation, and helps increase authenticity.
• Does NFATR compete with retailers and dealers in art sales by trying to match buyers and sellers together? Absolutely not! NFATR is not a site for buyers and sellers to meet. It is not an auction site. NFATR is strictly for the registration of original artwork.
• How much income can I expect to earn? Of each $10.00 registration fee paid, you as an Affiliate will earn $4.00. In addition to collecting a fee for each piece of artwork that you are involved with, you will earn $4.00 for each piece that is registered through your Web site. The more you promote NFATR the more you will earn. We have provided marketing materials on our Web site for you to use. In fact, most of the pieces will automatically print out with your organization’s name and Web address.
• How can I print a “price card?” The Price Card is a mini Certificate, sized just under 3 inches square, with the title, artist, size, medium and price displayed. You do not have to have an asking price entered on the registration in order to print out a Price Card. You may print a Price Card for any work shown in your Portfolio, whether it is under “Art for Which You Are the Listed Agent” or “Art for Which You Are the Listed Owner.” Log in and, at the bottom of your Welcome page, you will see a listing of all art in your portfolio. Click the Details button for the artwork. At the bottom of the Art Details page, click “View Price Card.” Adobe Acrobat Reader will open the document and you may then print it.
• How can I suggest to customers that they register their artwork? There are several ways to accomplish this.
o You can explain that the original work of art being purchased is eligible to be registered and that you can open a free portfolio for the customer and walk him/her through the registration. There is a $10 fee for the registration.
o You can post in your establishment that all works will be registered with NFATR and a $10.00 will be added to the price.
o Or, add $10.00 to the price of each piece of original art and explain registration to the customer as you open a free portfolio for him/her and register the purchased work. This links that customer’s portfolio to your Affiliate code so that you will receive commissions on other art the customer registers or transfers title on. Then, give your customer a flyer, noting the password used to open the portfolio (he/she can change it later), and suggest he/she register other works of original art from home by going to your Web site and clicking the Fine Arts banner ad or button. (If you have opened the customer’s portfolio while logged in under your Affiliate address, you will receive the commissions even if the customer goes directly to the NFATR site to register more art at home.)
• Are there any marketing materials available? There is a “Marketing Materials” link located on your Welcome page when you log in. Click that to see a list of materials available. Most of those materials will print out with your name and Web site information already on it. Simply select the document and print. It’s as simple as that. (We do suggest a color printer for the materials you will be displaying in your store.)
• What is NFATR doing to promote the registration of artwork? NFATR is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars promoting the benefits of fine art title registration. We are advertising monthly in the most popular publications read by artists, art enthusiasts, retailers, art wholesalers and manufacturers. We have a special program to help insurance agents educate every insured homeowner. And there is an ongoing publicity campaign underway.
• What are the steps involved in registering a piece of artwork? This is such an easy process to complete. If you are a registered Affiliate, go to your Affiliate Welcome page and click on the button at the very bottom that says “Register new art for your portfolio.” Complete the questionnaire. If you are an art owner who has registered before, log in by clicking My Portfolio. Click on the button that says “Register New Art” and complete the questionnaire. If you have not registered to open a portfolio previously, click Register Art on the home page at the top of the left column or click any of the “Click Here to Register” buttons. Complete the very brief profile, and you are ready to begin registering your artwork.
• Do I earn money if one of my clients/customers registers artwork not purchased from me (a retail art dealer)? That is the beauty of our Affiliate program. Every registration that originates through your Web site means $4.00 to you. We highly recommend that you make certain every person who walks in your establishment, whether they make a purchase of not, is given a flyer/handout about why they should be registering all of their artwork.
• How do I appoint a gallery or representative as an agent for a work of art I own? Go into your portfolio. Click the “Detail” button for the piece of artwork for which you want an agent appointed. The last line in that section is for registering an agent. You must fill in the gallery’s or agent’s email address, not the name. The agent must have a NFATR portfolio, but it is free, easy and fast to open one.
• How do I view the pieces in my portfolio? Art Owners: Click on “My Portfolio” then enter your email address and password. Everything in your portfolio will appear. Affiliates: Click Affiliate Login and enter your email address and password. At the bottom of your Welcome page, the pieces you represent and the pieces you own are listed in your portfolio.
• How are changes recorded on the registration record? Once you are viewing your portfolio, there is a “Details” button for each work. Click on that button. You can then record any changes or add detail about the painting, such as a description, marking, change of ownership, etc.
• How is ownership tracked and changed?
o When you first register a work of art, you may enter information about when and where you bought it in the Description/History text box. Before transferring the title for a piece, open the Detail view and use the text box to record details of the sale. The information will remain in the Description box unless the next owner removes it.
o Also, when a title transfer occurs, the buyer and seller both receive acknowledgment emails.
• How do I transfer the ownership of a piece that is already registered? If you are a registered Affiliate, log in to your Affiliate Welcome page. Select “Add New Owner” if the new owner is not registered with NFATR or “Add/ Transfer Art” if the new owner already has a portfolio. (If you are uncertain whether the customer is already registered, start with “Add New Owner.” If the customer’s email address is already registered, you will be alerted.)
• If you are an art owner and not an Affiliate, go to “My Portfolio” and select the artwork you are transferring. You may wish to click on “Details” and add the date of the sale and the sale price (both optional). Entering the information in the Description/History box allows for the tracking of ownership. Click on “Transfer Title” and fill in the blanks with the new owner information.
• How do I upload a picture or document? Three simple steps. Go to your Portfolio and select the “Photo” button for the piece of art for which you want to include a picture. Click on the “Browse” button and highlight the photo that you already have stored on your computer. Once highlighted, next click on the “Open” command and then click on “Upload Photo.” Use the same process for adding any pertinent document such as a bill of sale, appraisal or insurance document.
• How do I add NFATR links or buttons (banner ads) to my Web site? Once you sign up to become an Affiliate you will be able to choose from a wide array of banner sizes which you can add to your site. You can log into your affiliate account at any time to see our list of available banners. Once logged in, it’s very easy: Select "Banner Ads" and you'll see our information page with our banners/links. Choose your desired link and select "Grab Affiliate Code." Copy and paste the HTML code to your web page. It's that easy!
• When do I get paid by NFATR? Each quarter you will receive from NFATR a report that shows the number of pieces of artwork registered and the payment amount along with a check.
• What are my options for processing the payment for a new registration or a title transfer? All payment transactions are made by credit card via our Web site. In the event your client writes a check or pays with cash for their purchase, simply use your business credit card.
• Can other valuables be registered with NFATR? At this time, the registration is limited to artwork including sculptures.
• How can I tell how many pieces of art have been registered through my Web site? A reconciliation report will be sent to you quarterly along with you royalty check.
• Insurance agents only: How can I tell which of my clients/ customers have registered artwork? To insure privacy, you will know only if your clients indicate on the special registration confirmation email that they desire for you to be alerted. They can click a link in the email to send you a copy of their confirmation email from their own email program.
• How secure is the data housed within the Registry? Our server systems are layered for security purposes. The first level of security is our fully redundant firewall/router system. On the second level, only those machines that have a reason to directly access the Internet are located on our "external" network. Client data and monitoring systems exist on our "internal" network behind a third level of security.
